It was very traumatic for the mom and she was saying "no" and finally "get your hands OUT of me!" The doctor then looked down at his hands in surprise, almost as if he hadn't realized he was doing it. This was about 5 years ago (I'm a CBE, not a doula, and don't go to very many births). I am seeing this in my area too, and have serious concerns about all this "massaging." One of the reasons I love water birth - it largely keeps hands off of perineums. (Except mom's hands, of course!) Yes!
